Could it be Apatura iris ab. monophana see cockayne database http://www.nhm.ac.uk/research-curation/research/projects/cockayne/database It certainly looks to have the russet markings on the hind wings and much reduced white wing bars? Mark.
Thanks for the input. I felt that it was closest to ab. monophana & would welcome other views. I suggested iolata since many ab's seem to be routinely labelled as such now although few show many characteristics. An ab. lugenda also did a high flypast causing much bafflement but did not grace the lens !
