Doings ...

Two of my three hibernating larvae in / around Savernake today (the third is 4m up a tree, out of range!). Rather wondrously, none has been lost to predation since mid November (NB during the 2009-10 winter predation was highest in late winter...).

I thought hibernating larvae preferred leaf buds rather than flower buds?

No, here they use both, but especially flower buds (sometimes it's hard to tell them apart).

Just looked at my data. Of 40 larvae found next to buds, 30 seemed to be next to flower buds, 10 next to leaf buds.
