Two hibernating larvae photographed near Savernake Forest yesterday.  They've both greened up a tinge, but have also shrunk a tiny bit which happens in cold weather.  They're fine.

Into February!

Delighted to report that I still haven't lost any wild hibernating larvae to predation so far this winter, albeit from a small sample.  This is in stark contrast to this time last year, when larvae were being picked off at an alarming rate. 

Also, I have now seen iris in the wild, in one or more of its life stages, for 69 consecutive months - and if that's not obsessive I don't know what is. 

On the debit side, I still cannot post images on this blog any longer.  Can someone sort this for me please...

Midwinter Doings...

Without wishing to tempt fate, I need to report that so far this winter none of the small number of hibernating larvae I've been following in the wild have been predated. (I really hope I don't regret writing this...)

Can't show the photos as they wont load - can't connect to server apparently... 

Championing Purple at the Verrall (2015)

Have just received my invitation to attend this years Verrall event. I guess I’d better dust off the dinner shoes and jacket. Was thinking of topping off my attire with a well placed pin badge!

Anyone know if wellies are allowed?

Kick Off!

The first iris of the year, illuminating a damp, windy and very dull day - hardly good photography conditions, nonetheless one is duty-bound to visit. 

This next one was hiding in a rain drop, and matching the colours of its background perfectly (the twig was waving around in the wind) -

The good news is that no losses occurred during December (to predation), though the sample size is very small.

My personal ambition for the year is to get to grips with Herself...
