A short visit today found that iris is now quite well out in Savernake Forest. I managed to see seven males in four of the nine territories I monitor there, and a bat-like female (a 'lady of no small consequence'). One of the males shot an Emperor dragonfly Anax imperator down in flames...
I am not expecting a large emergence in Savernake this year as 80% of hibernating larvae there were predated, the highest tally in five winters of monitoring. Worse, predation carried on unabated into the spring.
