Latest from Matthew on site:Modest hatch of Purple Emperor males in Fermyn Woods (Souther, Lady & Titchmarsh block) today, Wed. Saw 7, all bar one after 3pm, including a battling pair. But hard work.
It's a little bit early to say this but I suspect that numbers are right down here - I should find out tomorrow, which is supposed to be nice here until mid pm (though after a cold night, which is never good for iris).
White Admiral numbers continue to build slowly, and seem to be only a little below average here. But still no W-l Hairstreak.
And a single specimen of that great modern rarity, Aglais urticae...
