Could it be Apatura iris ab. monophana see cockayne database http://www.nhm.ac.uk/research-curation/research/projects/cockayne/databaseIt certainly looks to have the russet markings on the hind wings and much reduced white wing bars? Mark.
Thanks for the input.I felt that it was closest to ab. monophana & would welcome other views.I suggested iolata since many ab's seem to be routinely labelled as such now although few show many characteristics.An ab. lugenda also did a high flypast causing much bafflement but did not grace the lens !
