I had my first up close and personal encounter of the year with a wild iris this morning. A large male had taken up residence in one of the new clearings near the top of the main track at Finemere Wood. For nearly 30 minutes he made frequent swooping and gliding flights around the grove. Settling frequently upon the pine tree trunks and wood piles around the clearing. A couple of times he appeared to show some interest in me, circling me several times but never settling upon me.
