Spent the day wandering the woods in Alice Holt complex, including the main territories, in the vain hope that his highness might appear. Sadly my only encounter was a certain Neil Hume and Ashley Whitlock similarly engaged.
Whilst the morning yielded very little on the way of butterflies - only small numbers of swf and white admiral at Straits and virtually none at Abbots wood, by the afternoon it was obvious a significant emergence was underway with 12 beautifully fresh White Admirals and 15+ silver washed including my first female.
I note the first grounded male has been photographed at Chiddingfold so it could well be the proper start to the season?
